PROFILE
Simunye Plaza is a community-focused shopping centre located on Portion 1, Farm 1244 in Simunye, within the Lubombo District of the Kingdom of Eswatini. The plaza was established to serve the growing needs of the surrounding community and the workforce associated with the Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation (RES), which played a central role in the development of the Simunye town.
Simunye itself is often referred to as a “company town,” having grown around the activities of the sugar industry. The establishment of Simunye Plaza was therefore a natural response to the need for a central commercial space where residents and surrounding communities could access essential goods, services, and business facilities.
The plaza was officially opened on 26 August 1981, by His Royal Highness Prince Gabheni, representing His Majesty King Sobhuza II. Since its establishment, Simunye Plaza has played an important role in supporting economic activity and convenience within the Lubombo region.
Today, Simunye Plaza serves as a key commercial hub for Simunye and nearby communities. The centre hosts a variety of businesses that provide retail goods, essential services, and everyday conveniences to residents, workers, and visitors to the area. These businesses include retail shops, service providers, and other commercial tenants that contribute to the vibrancy of the local economy.
In addition to commercial retail space, the plaza also includes residential accommodation within the complex. This mixed-use structure allows the plaza to function not only as a shopping destination but also as a living and working environment for individuals within the community.
The architectural layout of Simunye Plaza is designed with practicality and accessibility in mind. The centre provides convenient access to shops and services, making it easy for customers to find what they need while supporting local businesses operating within the plaza.
For more than four decades, Simunye Plaza has continued to serve as an important centre of commerce and community activity in the Lubombo District, providing a reliable space for shopping, business, and daily services for the people of Simunye and surrounding areas
